Yes it is true, the abc network is cancelling AMC, OLTL and GH!!! On April 18, 2011 TV Guide posted an article quotes "ABC Responds to Hoover Ad Boycott Over Cancellation of Soaps." The Hoover company, the famous vacuum-cleaner maker one of the most iconic brands in America has posted a statement on Facebook saying it will pull all advertising from ABC effective April, 22 2011 to protest the cancellation of the network's daytime soaps All My Children and One Life to Live.

So is the fate of AMC and OLTL a sign that “the survival of soap operas” is an impossibility? I’d say yes and no. It’s become increasingly clear that NBC, ABC, and CBS may be keeping a soap or two alive for the time being, but their commitment to the genre is minimal. There’s little willingness to invest more money and talent or to experiment too far outside the box. Are we just biding our time until the genre has completely gone extinct?

Will ABC Cancel ‘General Hospital’ for Katie Couric?

Just a few weeks after ABC announced that it is canceling “All My Children” and “One Life To Live“, TMZ is reporting that it has made a 20 million dollar deal for Katie Couric to both host a syndicated daytime talk show and report for its news programs including 20/20 and serving as a fill-in anchor on the evening news. The network is allegedly poised to cancel “General Hospital” to make room for Couric’s program, completing eliminating daytime soaps from ABC”s line-up. ABC issued a statement saying that it had “”No comment at this time,” which is not exactly a denial.

The terms of Couric’s exit deal with CBS give the Tiffany network until June 4th to match any offer that she receives. That means ABC cannot officially close a deal for several weeks. Since Couric’s new show would be syndicated, it may not end up on ABC in every market. Though the show could be slated for the 3PM timeslot currently occupied by GH, the soap could move to either AMC or OLTL’s current timeslot. It is also possible that the network could drop either of its new shows, “The Chew” and “The Revolution,” in favor of Couric.

It’s No Fluke: “One Life to Live” is Once Again ABC’s Most Watched Soap

Another week of ratings, another week of the canceled “One Life To Live” having the most total viewers of any ABC soap. OLTL again beat “General Hospital” in total viewers (2,544,000 versus 2,524,000) tied it in Household ratings (1.9/6) and beat it in the Women 18-34 demographic (0.6/4 versus 0.5/4). OLTL continues to be the only soap to gain viewers from the same week a year ago (+233,000) Unfortunately, instead of having second thoughts about canceling OLTL, ABC seems to be considering GH’s ratings woes as reason to consider pulling the plug. Memo to the network: it’s not that people have lost interest in GH. It’s that your target audience of mothers may find that a show that simultaneously features major storylines about the death of a four year old and the kidnapping of a toddler a little too dark to be escapist entertainment.

Soap operas have ruled the airways since the 1960s. Soaps like "All My Children" and "Days of our Lives" have long been a staple on daytime television because of their loyal fan base, profitable advertising revenue and cushy timeslots on major networks. But that is all about to change.
On April 14, ABC cancelled two of their longest running shows ever: "All My Children" and "One Life to Live". Last year, CBS also killed two of their longest-running daytime series ever: "Guiding Light" and "As the World Turns". Only 4 soap operas--"Days of Our Lives," "General Hospital," Young and the Restless" and "The Bold and Beautiful"-- remain on daytime television. And there is no guarantee that these shows will live to see another season.

Major television networks are quickly cancelling soaps

The dropping viewership and costly production schedules is the problem at hand. Even though soap opera fans are some of the most loyal TV fans around, a gradual loss of viewership has taken place. This decrease in viewership has led to a decrease in advertising revenue for most soaps over the years. And with this decrease in revenue, many networks are hesitant to keep supporting costly production schedules. Soap operas film new content for 5 shows a week, usually for an hour long show. This is an unprecedented amount of filming time that is expensive to finance and physically grueling for actors.

Therefore, networks are replacing soap operas for less-costly shows like talk shows and game shows. CBS replaced their cancelled soaps with "Let's Make a Deal" and "The Talk," and ABC will replace their newly cancelled shows with "The Chew and "The Revolution".

Could Vanessa Marcil really be reprising her role as Brenda Barrett? The rumors of her return are heating up, months after soapcentral.com first reported that the actress and show execs were in talks. It's been seven years since Brenda last set foot in Port Charles. In January, soapcentral.com first reported that General Hospital was in talks with Emmy winner Vanessa Marcil (Brenda Barrett) about a possible return to the show. "We have actually been in contact with Vanessa, and there is interest on both parts in seeing Brenda return," General Hospital's head writer, Robert Guza, Jr., said at the time.

Since then, there's been little in the way of progress. After all, Brenda hasn't set foot in Port Charles. Still, Soap Opera Digest is now reporting that Marcil's return could be closer than ever. "We are talking to Vanessa Marcil as we speak," Guza told the magazine. "That is the truth. [...] She's interested. We're interested."

For Marcil's fans, the scenario may seem like one big déjà vu. By now, soapcentral.com readers know that this isn't the first time that General Hospital and Marcil have tried to find a way to work together. In January 2009, Marcil revealed that she was "trying to make [a return] work." A series of primetime engagements prevented that return. Though the actress recently appeared in the online series, The Bannen Way, she is currently not attached to a primetime project.

Marcil originated the role of Brenda in September 1992. In 1998, she left the soap to pursue other opportunities. She quickly landed a role on Beverly Hills, 90210. In 2002, Marcil returned to General Hospital for a short-term engagement. The result of that five-month return was Marcil's first-ever Daytime Emmy award. Marcil last appeared on General Hospital on February 19, 2003.

Although tempted to make his presence known, Michael hides when Dante shows up on the island. Claire has a run in with Sonny and promises him that he will be punished.

Nikolas sees how disappointed Elizabeth is that Lucky isn't the father of her baby.He tells her he's planning on having a second test run, in case Helena messed with the first. Nikolas isn't happy about Helena moving into Wyndemere.

Jason, suspicious that Kristina is lying about Ethan beating her, goes to see her. Jason upsets Kristina when he gets too close to the truth, seeing clear holes in her story. The band is called Enation, and they have released several albums and had a Top 10 hit on the iTunes national Rock Charts. Jonathan and Richard Lee played under various names before forming Enation, such as Jono and the Rock, Scarlet River and Scarlet Road. Several of the band's songs were aired on General Hospital, the most memorable being his ballad "Elizabeth". Most recently, a song by Enation titled "Feel This" was prominently featured on the television series One Tree Hill, which stars Enation member Michael Galeotti's wife Bethany Joy Galeotti. It was less than a month ago that word first broke that B&B was interested in hiring the then-soon-to-be-exiting General Hospital star. Hearst, a three-time Emmy winner, previously appeared on B&B in 2002. A message from the actor's official fan club, confirms that Hearst returned to work on The Bold and the Beautiful on May 22 -- the day after he taped his final scenes on General Hospital. Nathan Parsons first appeared on General Hospital as Ethan Lovett the week of January 26, 2009. Ethan claimed to have been in town after losing some money, Lovett arrives in Luke's casino. The two apparently share the same skills as grifters to form a strange kind of con man bond, but there is more to the new found friendship that meets the eye.

Ethan reveals to Luke they have someone in common, a one Holly Sutton, a love interest from Luke's adventurous past. Lovett tells Luke that his own adoptive parents died, and that Holly Sutton never mentioned Luke, and that she only talked about a great place where she lived. This making Luke apparently uneasy about the knowledge of Holly, and was not quite convinced this was a whole truth.

Scott Clifton is the new face in class on One Life to Live. But while he's new to Llanview, he's not new to ABC Daytime.

You probably recognize him as Dillon Quartermaine on General Hospital, a role for which he is a three time Emmy-nominee. He made his first appearance on One Life to Live on January 9th as Schuyler Joplin, biology teacher.

1) You'll be playing a character by the name of Schuyler Joplin on One Life to Live. Can you tell us anything about the character?

He's Dr. Leah Joplin's son, (which you might have already deduced from the last name) and he's had a pretty turbulent past with drug addiction. You'll find out that he's the "leverage" Todd Manning used to blackmail Dr. Joplin into helping him with his whole baby-napping scheme. Schuyler is a high school biology teacher by profession, and just took a job at Llanview High, where he meets Starr and starts discovering all kinds of crazy connections.

2) What characters are you interacting with on One Life to Live? Any hints or spoilers you can share?

Outside of the classroom stuff with students like Langston and Markko, the majority of Schuyler's one-on-one scenes so far have been with Starr ... which you can imagine makes Cole a bit uncomfortable, so you'll see a few confrontations with him as well. Outside of that, I've had a couple interesting run-ins with Antonio Vega and John McBain (who Schuyler seems to see as a bit of a celebrity).

3) Fans got to know you best playing Dillon Quartermaine on General Hospital? What was your favorite part about playing Dillon?

Although he denied it, Dillon was an adventurer, and took after Luke Spencer in a lot of significant ways. I loved the disguises, the accents, the characters, the fantasy scenes. Those will always have a place in my heart. That, and the wicked cool hair.

4) Did you have a favorite GH storyline?

There was a phase Dillon went through early on in which he wanted so badly to prove to himself (and Georgie) that he was a "bad boy". He stole cars, hot-wired motorcycles, got arrested and began to cultivate a relationship with Lorenzo Alcazar. It wasn't who Dillon really was, but thats exactly why it was so fun to play.

5) General Hospital films in Los Angeles while One Life films in New York City. Is this your first time living in the Big Apple? What do you do in your spare time?

I've never lived outside of Los Angeles my entire life. New York is like a completely different universe. It's amazing. I get to spend so much time here just walking around, looking at things, talking to people. Getting lost on the subway, and creating my own little adventures, which you don't (and can't) do in LA. I feel like I discover a new restaurant every day that changes my life. Bored? Just throw a dart at a map of Manhattan and show up.

6) You are an accomplished musician and you just released your latest album So Much for the Nightlife. What kind of music do you perform? Do you write your own songs?

Yeah, I do. I write all of them. The funny thing is, I consider myself much more of a songwriter than a singer. I don't think I'm a particularly stellar performer, musically. But I'm proud enough of my songs that I want to showcase them and share them with people. So I sing them, and sometimes play my guitar. But I love hearing other people sing my songs. That's the greatest compliment. I fantasize about selling them to famous recording artists and hearing them in a karaoke bar one day. Is that weird?

Reports of abc soaps being cut from airwaves is a major concern for soap fans everywhere. It has people are wondering,... will our favorite abc soaps be axed by the downward economy?

Natalia Livingston makes a surprising return as "Rebecca" on General Hospital. The big question is - are fans happy with the decision to bring back the dead?

The official General Hospital word comes straight from the horses mouth! Natalia Livingston, who played Emily Quartermaine, will return as a new character on the soap after being killed off in 2008. According to reports in 2009 Natalia will be coming on the show as a new character named "Rebecca" and is set to air on January 12, 2009. Fans were glad to hear the news of a Livingston return provided it was not another Quartermaine ghost line, while non-fans are poo-pooing the idea. All My Children spoilers for the week of 1/5/09: A casino gala could turn deadly: JR holds David hostage; Tad returns; and Bianca decides to test Reese and Zach!

Everyone in town gathers for the gala reopening of Zach's casino. This, of course, means crazy drama ... and glitzy outfits. When David and Krystal make their entrance together, heads turn and people offer looks of disapproval. But a drunken JR refuses to let David infiltrate the party (or destroy more people he cares about). So, naturally, he kidnaps David and holds him at gunpoint. JR's unstable, so there really is no telling what he'll do -- to David or to Krystal, who ultimately finds the two men. Things couldn't get worse, right? Wrong. Tad comes home -- and if Krystal won't tell him about the affair with David, JR will!

With Reese and Zach spending so much time together, thanks to the casino opening, Bianca's suspicions regarding their friendship grow. The visit from Reese's ex-fiance (a guy!) didn't help quell Bianca's suspicions that Reese may be bisexual -- and looking for a little action on the side. So, Bianca lets her Kane-woman instincts get the best of her, and decides to test her future bride and her brother-in-law. But we know Kane-woman plots often backfire in the schemer's face. Will this be the case for Binks?

First up on the agenda of trials and tribulations: Starr having to explain to all her classmates what happened to her baby. Meanwhile, the loss of his daughter -- and the alienation he feels from his mother, Marty -- has left Cole feeling adrift. That's why drugs seem so enticing. A different Llanview resident hasn't just been tempted by drugs, though ... he's already bought some! We really don't think you're going to believe who it is.

Scott Clifton joins the cast as Schuyler, a teacher at Starr's high school. Schuyler -- like any good new character on One Life to Live -- has a little secret ... in the form of a connection to a big event in Llanview.

Across town, Marty was successful in convincing Todd to jump off a roof (yes, literally). But Todd lands in the Llantano river, where John saves him. Marty's none too thrilled with John's actions, and ends up reviving "Marty the party girl" and having a one night stand with a familiar face. Blair, despite all of Todd's past action, is compelled to see him. We all know their connection defies explanation, given how much they've forgiven each other in the past. So when Blair goes to see a post-suicidal Todd (arguably, Todd at his most vulnerable), will the dynamic between the two shift again?

During her encounter with Alex Olanov, Dorian gets some startling information: David Vickers is a Buchanan! Meanwhile, back in Llanview, Nora, Clint and the rest of the family scramble to prevent David from finding out that Asa has willed the entire Buchanan fortune to him. Once Dorian finds out David -- her ex (and now, a Buddhist monk) -- is the richest man in Llanview, you KNOW she's gonna do something ...

General Hospital Spoilers For the week of 1/5/09: Maxie seduces Spinelli; Sonny and Luke team up; and the Jackal vs. the FBI! Plus: The biggest event to hit Port Charles is coming!

It's a New Year, and any hope Spinelli had of it being a calmer one goes right out the window! First, we learn that Winifred -- the nerdy girl that's developed an interest in Spinelli -- is actually an FBI agent. She's undercover and using Spinelli to get to a bigger target: Jason.

Maxie is steaming with jealousy over the new woman that's replaced her as Spinelli's closest confidante. So she decides to take action. After confronting Winifred, and futilely trying to convince Spinelli that the girl is trouble, Maxie decides to go to Plan B to get her best friend back: She seduces him! Afterwards, Spinelli gets wise to her plan -- but before they can get into it, he's arrested by the Feds. The charges: Treason and homeland security violation. How will the Jackal escape this one?

Across town, Johnny's having his own troubles with the law. He's arrested for assaulting someone, even though the charges are bogus -- a fabrication by Anthony and Ric. Lulu pleads with her father, Luke, to help get her man out of this mess. Luke, showing an odd degree of parental interest, agrees to help her out. Luke gets Sonny on the case, and the pair teams up to save Johnny -- despite the ramifications Sonny's actions will have on father-in-law Anthony, and the Zacchara mob in general.

Carly and Jax move forward with their divorce, despite each other's ambivalence. Diane and Alexis, their respective lawyers, realize it's going to be nothing if not messy. Thus, the only solution -- as these two logical ladies see it -- is to get Carly and Jax back together (yes, Alexis DOES get in on this)!

All this, PLUS: Claudia takes on Carly (and she might take on Olivia, given Jax's interest in her) and Nadine fights the U.S. government over her refusal to be an arms dealer.

After all, Reese seemed to dodge Bianca's question about being bisexual last week. To make matters worse, Reese's ex-fiance, Simon, shows up on Bianca's doorstep. The stars don't seem to be aligning in Bianca and Reese's favor ...

Not so for Ryan and Greenlee. After dealing with escaped mental patient Annie, talk turns to the future. Once Emma gives her blessing (in Emma-speak, of course), Ryan asks Greenlee to marry him! Greenlee's torn, given the rocky road they've shared -- but a tarot card reading from Opal puts Greenlee's mind at ease, and she accepts Ryan's proposal! Except, after Greenlee leaves, Opal realizes there was one card missing in the deck. One that speaks volumes about what's going to happen next ...

With the likelihood of Todd facing any sort of jail time dwindling, Marty's need for revenge sends her straight to him, with a forced smile and false words about a possible reconciliation. Marty totally works Todd -- and he starts to believe that maybe she does still love him and wants to give a relationship a try. Under the premise of a romantic evening, Marty lures Todd to the Palace Hotel roof, where she lets out all of her hatred. John and Blair find out about Marty's plan, and rush to the Palace to try to stop her. By the end of the evening, someone is going off the roof! But it might not be who -- or how -- you expect ...

Across town, the Buchanans are gathered for a follow-up to Asa's will reading. Remember the stipulation of the late patriarch's will that gave his family one year to turn a profit? Well, even though the economy stinks, that doesn't get them off the hook. Asa, via a DVD recording made in the event of his family's failure, reveals that he's giving all his wealth to his long-lost son: David Vickers!

Meanwhile, David -- who is now a Buddhist monk -- encounters Viki and Charlie, and reveals that Dorian was the one that drugged Charlie and plied him with liquor months earlier. Busted, Dorian makes a quick escape out of town. Who does she run into upon leaving Llanview? None other than Alex Olanov, the ex-Mrs. David Vickers (and Asa Buchanan). One would think Dorian would rip Alex's lungs out given that the last time they were within five feet of each other, Alex ran her over. But Alex has information that trumps any murderous intention on Dorian's part: David's a Buchanan. We can only imagine what Dorian will do with this information.

For the week of 12/29: Romance is in the air as Robin and Patrick's wedding continues, and Spinelli may have found a girlfriend. Plus: Jason takes a stand!

A new year means new beginnings -- and for some couples in Port Charles, that may just be the case. On Michael's birthday, Carly goes to visit him ... and encounters Sonny at Michael's care facility. As talk turns to their years with Michael, the two finally make peace and forgive each other for what happened to their son. And Carly may find that things are looking up when it comes to a future with Jax, as the two share a slow dance on New Year's Eve as the clock strikes midnight.

They aren't alone in feeling the romance. Nikolas and Nadine usher 2009 in by having sex, while Luke manages to get through to Tracy using symbolism that only Luke and Tracy can really understand (think gambling).

The ultimate in romance -- Robin and Patrick's wedding -- continues, and it's truly an affair to remember. From Robert's speech to his daughter to Robin and Patrick's first dance, this is must-see.

Spinelli and Maxie share a dance at the wedding (and Spinelli sings! You'll see what we mean). Across town, Ryan and Greenlee take things a step beyond the mistletoe. Yes, they have sex! Ryan wants to put the guilt and the past aside and build a future with Greenlee -- but that future might not be so rosy. First, there's Annie. Now even more certifiably nuts (if that's possible) than before, Annie bestows a special kind of Christmas gift on Pine Valley: she escapes the mental institution! Aidan, who's been undercover at Oak Haven watching Annie, could be the only one willing and able to help. But will that blow his cover -- and the mysterious reason why he's there?

David scores a win in his quest to drive JR back to the bottle. He deploys Amanda to strike a fatal blow that could tip JR over the edge. Claiming she doesn't want to spend the holidays alone, Amanda uses Babe's memory to her (or rather, David's) advantage -- and gets JR so upset that he starts downing booze. For the week of 12/8:

Marty's revenge on Todd begins, and will Todd go to jail?

Marty is mad, and like so many others, she's deciding to get even. After being used and abused by Todd, she starts to gather information on her rapist, all with the purpose of bringing him down. But an encounter with someone from her past a familiar face to longtime Llanview viewers gives her some insight into the kind of person SHE was. It's eye-opening, but Marty's response might surprise you.

Todd prepares for his hearing, where he plans to plead guilty for all his crimes against Marty. In a surprising move of integrity (used loosely this is Todd), he wants to pay for his crimes. The hearing draws the typical crew of Llanview observers, including Starr. Nora's prepared for battle, if need be, but it looks like Todd's actually going to do the right thing and willingly go to jail. Until Tea walks in and forbids Todd from entering his plea. She's going to defend him! But the question is: Will that stop Todd from doing what's right?

Amidst all this drama, there's plenty of romance going on! Rex and Gigi, who are slowly getting Shane to warm up to the "Rex is your dad" idea, make love for the first time since he was shot. Up at Llanfair, Viki and Charlie finally reconcile! Even Natalie and Jared manage to get in some romance (amidst babysitting, oddly enough).

Rocky waters for other potential couples, though: Jessica can barely show her face to Brody after realizing her alter, Tess, propositioned him. Having an alternate personality asking a fellow mental patient to have sex is not the way to get a boyfriend, Jess!

All this PLUS Vanessa kisses Cristian, Tea drops a bomb on the Vegas, and Blair makes a decision about John.

For the week of 11/24:
Starr and Cole reconnect, Blair, John and Marty and face the future and someone leaves town!

As Thanksgiving approaches, Llanview mourns the loss of Starr and Cole's baby (little do they know, she's alive and well ... except everyone thinks she's Jessica's). Starr and Cole, apart for so long, find themselves reconnecting over the loss of their daughter. Could a reunion be in their future? Or will the drama between her father and his mother (as in, his kidnapping of Marty and plotting to steal Starr's baby) end up keeping the teens apart?

Starr's mother, Blair, has her own set of problems. Her romance with John may come to a halt now that Marty has returned to town. We all know Blair, though. Will she go down without a fight? Meanwhile, John and Marty struggle to reconnect. Except that's kind of hard when she can't remember her past with him.

Sarah is shocked when Tina tells her she's leaving town. But Tina, true to her style, leaves Sarah with a memorable parting gift.

All this PLUS: Rex and Shane have a breakthrough, Jessica makes a new friend, Brody is helped by an unlikely source, and Charlie gives Viki a romantic surprise.

Reese is keeping a secret from Bianca-and it's not the one you think! David drugs Krystal and Bianca! What's Aidan's agenda?

Poor Bianca. Secrets are being kept from her by her fiance, Reese, and her brother-in-law, Zach. And it's a whopper of a secret: Kendall, her sister, is dying. David told Zach, who confided in Reese, but gave strict orders not to tell Bianca. Secrets are a destructive thing, as Reese soon learns when she discovers that Bianca contacted her parents! They disowned their daughter for being gay, so, needless to say, it's not a happy relationship. There's more to the story, though, as Bianca soon discovers Reese is keeping ANOTHER secret from her, and this makes the Kendall one seem small.

Across town, David ratchets up his plan to use Krystal. While continuing to plant doubts in her head about Tad, he sends his longtime arch-enemy out of town by lying that Tad's son Jamie has gone missing. Then, he starts drugging Krystal! Things would be golden if Bianca didn't become an unintentional victim of the drugging. Now David's messing with a Kane woman�

Annie is shipped off to Oak Haven, where she meets her new doctor, Riley Sinclair (played by Passions star McKenzie Westmore). But Annie's days won't be spent relaxing in a bathrobe and coloring. Nope, Aidan sneaks into see her and he's got an agenda of his own. You'd also think this means a clear road to happiness for Ryan and Greenlee, but this is Pine Valley! Drama is always around the corner.

All this plus: Taylor makes Brot face their future (if they have one), JR stands up for Amanda, Randi opens up to Frankie, and someone comes off life support!

For the week of 11/24:
Annie comes clean with Ryan, and stabs Erica! Fusion holds a fundraiser and David comes between Tad and Krystal.

You know whenever Fusion decides to hold a party, drama is going to happen. Next week is no exception. As everyone gets their prettiest dresses on, lives will fall apart -- and one may be lost.

We've seen Annie act crazy, but next week she takes it to a new level. After admitting her role in Emma's kidnapping to Ryan, Annie pulls a gun on him. Then Greenlee, armed and dangerous herself, comes to Ryan's rescue. At this point, Annie completely loses her mind. She jumps off the (high-rise) terrace, dresses up in a wedding dress, imagines a future with Ryan, and -- to top it all off -- stabs Erica! Ms. Kane has been through a lot, but can she survive a knife straight to the gut?

David continues to manipulate his way across town. As Amanda makes some serious headway in her plan to take down JR, David's hold on Krystal tightens. She starts to dream of him (and most of the dreams involve David in bed), so much so that Tad starts to get suspicious and confronts her on it.

All this PLUS: Bianca takes on JR and Amanda, Jake has big news for Taylor, and Angie makes some sacrifices in the name of love.

For the week of 12/8:
Sam's attempts to be a hero could cost her life? Maxie makes a sacrifice for Spinelli, someone gets stabbed, and meet Port Charles' newest odd couple.

Sam proves herself to be the ultimate "everyday hero" when we learn that she rescued Jake before the evil Russian mob's cabin exploded. Jason returns Jake, safe and sound, home to his mom, Liz. Jake's kidnapping has given Liz a pretty harsh reality check on just how dangerous it is to be in Jason's life. But to make sure she fully understands, Jason walks her through the horrors of the kidnapping, so she's aware of the risks of being in his life. Will that mean the end of Jason and Liz forever?

It's a new beginning for Jason and Sam, though. After their months of animosity, Jason lets Sam know her rescue of Jake evens the score between them. They are friends again! Sam gets a lead on some information concerning the Russian mob. Seems her determination to take them down is a problem. When Sam gets wind that they plan on taking out Jason, she ends up becoming a stowaway on their evil Russian mob van. Looks like her desire to help Jason could end her life.

Mac puts his foot down: He tells Maxie either she stops hanging out with mob associate Spinelli, or she moves out. Maxie, unwilling to part from Spinelli, moves out of the Scorpio home. What's a homeless girl to do? Get a roommate, of course. But when that roommate is frenemy (on a good day) Lulu wanting to find her own independence you're basically asking for trouble. Can you picture these two living together?

Sonny hasn't forgotten his main objective for marrying Claudia: Get close enough to the Zacchara's to figure out if Anthony shot Kate. Operation: Butter Up Claudia commences this week as Sonny forbids any contact between brother Ric and Claudia, while also upping the flirtation with his wife. Will Claudia fall for it?

All this PLUS motherhood poses new problems for Robin, Olivia and Claudia go a few rounds, Carly proves how good a friend she is to Jason, Nadine gets a surprise and someone is stabbed!

General Hospital Spoilers For the week of 12/1:
Jason takes justice into his own hands, Carly declares war, and Sonny faces his biggest challenge: his wife!

Sonny and Claudia settle into married life. Claudia wants the full benefits of marriage (as in, she wants to hit the sheets). She even tells Ric that she's cutting off their no-strings affair. But is Sonny willing to fulfill his husbandly duties? After his attempts to make things right with Kate are unsuccessful, he may just be in a place to truly become "man and wife" with Claudia.

Jason and Sam team up to find baby Jake, who has been kidnapped by the evil Russian mob. They track Jake to an abandoned mine -- where they end up getting trapped! Hmm ... Jason and Sam in close quarters. Not a good thing for Jason and Liz (and Sam and Lucky),right?. They manage to escape (but what happens in that cave-in?) and track baby Jake to the Russians' hideout. The two break their way in, but it blows up! Does Jake survive, or has Jason's worst fears come true?

After catching Kate and Jax together, Carly declares war on them. Full blown, all out, "I'm going to destroy you" war! She enlists Nikolas to help her with the Jax part, while she calls upon cousin Lulu (Kate's employee, who's finally back to work) to get some inside information on the fashionable Ms. Howard. By the end of the week, Carly really hits Kate where it hurts.

All this, PLUS: Liz gets physical, Luke and Tracy have a heart-to-heart about Laura, Johnny can't deal with the fact that the police DON'T want to arrest him, and Robin learns why she may be having such a hard time being a new mom.

General Hospital Spoilers For the week of 11/17: Claudia says yes to Sonny's proposal, Jason shoots Sam and Spinelli's armed and dangerous!

Next week, get ready for a new definition to the term "power couple." Sonny and Claudia decide to get married! It's all part of Sonny's secret plan to get close to Claudia's dad, Anthony. You see, Sonny believes Anthony shot Kate, Sonny's former fiancee, and wants to prove it. As for Claudia, she knows that being Mrs. Corinthos would make her a power player. Obviously, Port Charles (especially Kate, Carly and Johnny) won't take this nuptial news lightly. You'll be surprised at who actually encourages Sonny to go through with this plan. But how will Sonny react when he finds out Claudia was responsible for putting his son Michael into a coma?

Meanwhile, Jason's starting a full on war with the late Karpov's allies. But war is messy, and things often don't go according to plan. Case in point: Jason shoots Sam! Hey Jason, get some glasses! The problems are just starting for Mr. Morgan, though. His efforts to protect Liz by isolating her in the woods only attract the attention of the Russian mob. Look for an unlikely ally to help Liz out!

Maxie, who witnessed the Russian mob set fire to Kelly's, is attacked and knocked unconscious by the thugs. When Spinelli finds her, he admits his love to the conked-out Maxie and vows to avenge her. Raiding Stone Cold's arsenal, Spinelli's got a gun. Will he use it? CAN he use it? (Last time he shot himself in the foot. Literally.)

All this PLUS: Jax becomes Nikolas' new landlord, Robin and Patrick get a crash course in parenthood, Tracy overhears some startling information, and Kate decides to tell Sonny about his son with Olivia.

Budig Leaves All My Children Early 2009

Rebecca Budig has been rumored for some time to be leaving Pine Valley and the soap All My Children once again in early 2009. Rebecca Budig reprised her Emmy-nominated role as Greenlee in January when she signed a one-year deal that came with a lot of controversy.

"It's true," Rebecca said in an interview with SOAPnet. "I'll be leaving All My Children" Budig said.

Rebecca Budig returned to All My Children in January 2008 after a two-year-absence from the show. All My Children opted in March 2007 to recast the role of Greenlee with newcomer Sabine Singh while Budig stepped back. Fans were upset with the recast, but others grew to eventually accept Singh's portrayal of the role originated by Budig. Now, after only a year, Rebecca seems to have opted out, which would have allowed her to stay with All My Children for another year.

GH Reunion on Night Shift 2008

It is rumored that Patrick Drake's actions with a patient results in an explosion that shakes up Port Charles. Rick Hearst Stays In Port Charles

Emmy winner Rick Hearst's, who plays Ric Lansing on General Hospital has been rumored that a contract renewal might change things in Port Charles. Hearst himself questioned whether or not he had a future with General Hopspital as the end of Rick's contract grew near. Some rumored he could reprise one of his old soap characters.

"I've got three months left on my contract," Hearst commented in July 2008. "We'll see if it's in the minds of our creators if I'll get a chance to go further. It would be nice. We'll see what happens." Talks were in the works as a General Hospital spokesperson has stepped up to calm fan's jittery nerves. Hearst has signed a new contract with General Hospital and will "continue with us for the foreseeable future."

General Hospital's writers apparently already have plans to test out a romantic pairing between Ric and Sarah Brown's Claudia Zacchara. While the network broke form in announcing that Rick Hearst had re-upped with the abc soap, it was not to comment on rumors about future storylines.

Andrea Evans Breast Cancer Awareness

Andrea Evans, who plays Tina Lord on the abc soap One Life to Live, continues to raise money for breast cancer research and breast cancer programs for survivors. Evans will serve as ambassador for a "breast cancer survivor's walk" and has created a special body soap that will raise money for "breast cancer charities." Andrea returned to One Life to Live earlier this year, ending a 17-year absence. Evans was quoted saying,.. "I am proud to once again be representing City of Hope's Walk for Hope in 2008 to continue my support of City of Hope"

"As the daughter of a breast cancer survivor, this cause is near and dear to my heart. I have seen firsthand what it takes to survive this disease and, if in the process of walking, we can save even one life, it is more than worth the effort."

Sandalwood Rose Soap retails for $8 while the Soap for Hope Gift Set, which includes two bars of Sandalwood Rose soap and a natural wood soap dish, costs $20. Both are available for purchase which began in September 2008.

Martinez Exits One Life To Live

A Martinez, who plays Ray Montez on One Life to Live, joined the cast on September 10th, 2008 has recorded his final episode for the abc soap.

Martinez's short arrival was later explained that the actor was only supposed to have a short stay in Llanview. It is rumored that fans are already expressing disappointment about the speedy leave of Martinez.

Martinez was greeted at this year's "One Life to Live Fan Club Luncheon" with a standing ovation. At no time was it indicated that Ray Montez would be exiting in only five weeks. Also, TVGuide reports that Martinez may return later on the show, but only if he is available and if storyline warrants a return.

Jacqueline Hendy joined the cast of One Life to Live in September for the new role of Vanessa Montez, expanding the Montez family in Llanview.

Eden Riegel Returns To All My Children

Night Shift Guest Stars Chad Allen

Chad Allen, who is known to TV viewers from his run on Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman and once famously claimed that he had been blacklisted by Hollywood after he "came out" in 1996, has signed on for General Hospital: Night Shift in a guest-starring role.

Over the course of three episodes, the first airing Sept. 23, Allen will play Eric, a patient in need of a liver transplant, and who develops a relationship with first-year resident Kyle (played by Adam Grimes) while undergoing treatment.

"We're delighted to have Chad join our show because not only is he a remarkable actor, he's an amazing activist," says NS head writer Sri Rao. "I welcome the honesty authenticity that he will bring to our show."

All My Children Seeks War Vet

An open casting call for All My Children is far from business as usual: The soap opera is seeking an Iraq war veteran to play an injured veteran.

The ABC daytime show has created a romantic story line to combine entertainment and a window into the challenges faced after combat, said executive producer Julie Hanan Carruthers.

All My Children has launched a broad search to fill the role, inviting veterans to contact the show’s New York casting director. The series is also working with a veterans’ support group, USA Cares, as well as the military.

"It will make it such a heightened experience for the audience and for us . . . to cast a real-life soldier, a veteran, and bring him into our created drama," Carruthers said.

The veteran-turned-actor will play the character of Brot, a key figure in a plot that’s already under way and involves a visitor to fictional Pine Valley, Army Lt. Taylor Thompson (Beth Ehlers).

Taylor, who was stationed in Iraq and is on medical leave, has come to town to deliver medals to fellow soldier Dr. Frankie Hubbard (Cornelius Smith Jr.). But it’s Brot, the soldier and lover she believes died in combat, who’s on her mind.

Brot, however, survived. Unwilling to involve Taylor in his suffering, he’s allowed her to think he’s dead.

Their story will begin unfolding when the right veteran is found for the part, Carruthers said. The casting call isn’t limited to those who were wounded in the war, an ABC spokesman said.

But the role will be shaped around a veteran’s experience, possibly including a war-related disability, Carruthers said.

"It’s a very delicate subject to begin with. There’s so much about the individual person that’s going to help us create the character, and whatever they bring and whatever their challenge is will be fit into the story," she said.

The show has woven potentially controversial events and themes into drama before, from the Vietnam War to, in recent years, a plot involving a lesbian mother who was forced to give up her daughter.

Also figuring in the All My Children wartime story is Jake Martin (Ricky Paull Goldin), an anti-war physician who provides differing social and political points of view.

Viewers accept tough issues in TV shows when they are dealt with on a personal rather than a political basis, Carruthers said.

"The audience embraces it because they relate to the people involved, who they care about," she said, allowing viewers to "surpass personal biases."

USA Cares, a nonprofit group that provides financial and other support to wounded soldiers and their families, is helping the show’s writers assess the accuracy of medical and military details, said spokesman John Revell.

"They’re great at drama, but there are many nuances that can be left out without getting the reality from the troops themselves," Revell said.

The show has also sought help from the U.S. Veterans Affairs Department and Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Carruthers said.

Reported by nydailynews.com, "All My Children" fans finally get the moment they've been waiting for next week when Zach lays down the law to Kendall about their marriage.

"He takes her away to a beach house and confronts her," says Thorsten Kaye, who plays the wealthy casino owner. "Of course, she turns it around: 'You're the one who always walks away!' That's not true. Zach is just trying to be a family man. That's a new thing for him. But Kendall is all, 'Ryan this, Aidan that,' and that is not working for Zach."

In fact, the more Kendall brings up her former lovers, the angrier Zach gets.

"With Kendall, it's always what Ryan needs. Zach says, 'Well, what about what we need as a family?' It's not an ultimatum. It's just getting to the point where he's going to have to say, 'If you need to be with all these other people, then maybe we have to take a harder look at you and me. Why do you have to be the one to fix all these people?'"

Good question.

"Kendall's problem is that she wants everyone to like her," answers Kaye. "I don't think she really wants to be with Ryan, but she can't handle the fact that Ryan has moved on from her."

He's juggling Annie and Greenlee, and keeping Kendall at arm's length.

"Ryan needs to make a decision," scoffs Kaye. "'If you want to be with Greenlee, go be with Greenlee. If you want to be with Annie, be with Annie. You're not in high school anymore. You've got kids.' There's a lot to think about."

Zach is done thinking, and decides to convince Kendall in bed.

"Sex is always good, but it doesn't fix the problems. Zach is tired of just being Kendall's husband. It's not enough. He used to have casinos and big companies.

By the end of the week, though, Kendall comes around to Zach's way of thinking.

"Zach says to her, 'It's only us. That's all we have," says Kaye, adding with a laugh, 'We're not 18 anymore. We're 23."

Executive sweet: "Days of Our Lives" co-executive producer Ed Scott is out, replaced by former "One Life to Live" executive producer Gary Tomlin. The move reunites Tomlin with former "OLTL" head writer Dena Higley.

Who's in? Who's out? Vincent Irizarry is back on "AMC" this fall as evil David.

Kroll at this year's Daytime Emmys and the two had the chance to talk about her first adult storyline. Alderson, who plays Starr Manning, has appeared on "One Life to Live" since she was six years old. Kristen had more than her share of typical soap opera storylines. Star Manning had feuding parents, ahe's been kidnapped by her father Todd, and charged a delivery of horse manure to a credit card she had stolen. The figures Alderson cited seems unrealistic at first, but amazingly the young actress is right on the money. Though the rate has declined in recent years, a new study shows that teen pregnancies are at a 15-year high. A March of Dimes study confirms that more than 750,000 teenagers become pregnant each year and about 420,000 give birth. Pregnant teens aged 15 to 19 are less likely to get prenatal care and gain appropriate weight, experts say. They are also more likely smoke than pregnant women aged 20 years or older.

"It's a very adult storyline," Alderson agreed. "As far as being a 16-year-old and pregnant... being pregnant is an adult thing, but a lot of teenage girls go through that. 750,000 teenage girls every year get pregnant."

It's by far the biggest attempt to provide a better cross-section of society since the mid-1990s and the introduction of the Santos family. Now, however, comes word that two of the actors are on their way out. Reports now say that Mario Van Peebles (Samuel Woods) is exiting All My Children? Van Peebles will return to the FX series Damages this fall where he plays Agent Harrison. Van Peebles' role on Damages is also recurring. Despite the high-profile addition of Van Peebles back in January 2008, the actor has been on recurring status with the soap All My Children. Van Peebles is under no obligation to the abc soap and can pursue other projects. Meanwhile, an All My Children spokesperson denies that Van Peebles is bolting, commenting that Van Peebles "continues to appear on recurring status and will continue to appear on recurring status." With his character running for public office, Van Peebles' character could simply win the election in the fall and be sent off to Washington, D.C.

Bradford's Spinelli is not your usual run of the mill hunk, but he sure knows how to bring back sexy by being supportive, honest, loyal, and trustworthy with a twist of geek, hence his nickname the Jackyl - Assassin of Cyberspace. There is a sense of purity and innocence with Spinelli, making him more desirable in Port Charles, although he constantly struggles to find true love, Anderson definitely plays the part well, and has fans wanting more Spinelli who unknowingly knows how to bring sexy back! The actress herself has made it very clear why she will not return for a longer stay is revealed through a television intimate portrait and a December 2007 interview on The View with Barbara Walters and the girls.

Genie explains that at that time she did not receive any offers from the abc Network to comeback to the soap, but Francis also admits she does not want to do a soap opera right now. Seemingly placing no blame on abc powers that be, Genie looks great today and has also taken some time for her own intimate self improvement. Francis successfully got herself back in shape, and has now lost her extra weight, she looks wonderful. The actress admits that diet shakes helped her take off the extra pounds. Genie says she now has more energy and truly appears very happy.

Francis has had a wonderful inspiring career, separate from the famous soap, in which Genie to this day admits... she will always love. According to her Lifetime Intimate Portrait, Genie really wants to separate herself from the loved role of Laura Webber Spencer, while trying to keep herself together, she wanted at some point to not be known as Genie Francis the girl who plays Laura on General Hospital.

Beth Ehlers as Taylor McBride on AMC

Reports of Beth Ehlers joining the cast of All My Children has been one of the biggest kept secrets in recent soap news. Reportedly abc initially denied reports of waiting until Emmy night to confirm that the Guiding Light star Beth Ehlers had been signed to All My Children.

Ehlers played Harley Cooper on Guiding Light in past years. All My Children is widely expected to capitalize on the fan base that the pair has already attracted and pair up the couple in Pine Valley.

abc releases that Ehlers' first air date to be July 24th, 2008, up from her original debut on August 5th, 2008.

Ehlers says she is so thrilled and is grateful to now be on All My Children and hopes it will be a good time. The reports started back in May of 2008 which sent soap media moguls into a panic to try and find out more about the cbs/abc switch gaining Ehlers on All My Children which insists abc is sticking it to cbs.

Ehlers joined the cast of "Guiding Light" in September 1987 and made her final appearance earlier this year. The cbs soap opera GL has not announced whether or not it will recast the role of Harley.

Incorrect reports of Beth taking on the role of Liza Colby have been discredited as rumor only, new rumors that she will play a brand new role on the soap are now being told as Soapcentral is now claiming Ehlers will portray Army Lieutenant Taylor McBride, a veteran of the Iraq war.

Bree Williamson Signs New Contract for OLTL

Bree Williamson was heavily rumored to be leaving the show "One Life To Live," but more recent reports say Williamson is not leaving and has signed a new contract with the popular soap.

Williamson, who joined the cast of OLTL in 2003, has been slighted to revisit her role as Tess, in the wake of Nash's death. Nash who was played by Forbes March exited the show when the powers that be shocked fans with his departure after being fired without explanation from officials.

Fans of One Life To Live expect Bree Williamson to do a great job in her Jess/Tess role once again, and would expect no less for the beautiful actress, who bares a striking resemblance to the actress who played Jessica Buchanan previous to her arrival on the soap.

Genie Francis who plays General Hospital's Laura Webber will return to the show in August of 2008 for a short stay in Port Charles. Fans are buzzing on how this will happen since Laura is in a 24 hour care facility and went back into her catatonic state.

With the recent storyline of her daughter Lulu Spencer, who is played by Julie Marie Berman, is now rumored to be taking the same insane path as her mother Laura, and will be making many of the same mistakes as her mother. Genie reveals it will be a mother-daughter story. It is rumored, Laura will miraculously emerge from her catatonic state because of her love for her daughter.

It is our speculation that most likely Laura's return will be when Lulu makes a visit to talk to her mother about her recent problems, as many Spencers have done in the past. Laura tends to give a good ear, and shoulder to cry on for her children.

Francis loves her role as Laura, and finds it nice that she can return, if even briefly, Genie calls it her home. Genie further says that she has been assured that Laura Webber will not be killed off during her guest appearance. In addition to her work on television, Francis also owns and operates a home-furnishing shop in Maine. Francis' return begins August 26th.
